Benchmarking the Pedagogical Knowledge of Large Language Models

From an education perspective, it is important to distinguish between content knowledge (the factual or conceptual understanding of a subject) and pedagogical knowledge (understanding the methods and strategies used to effectively teach a subject). After reviewing the LLM benchmark literature we did not find any existing LLM benchmarks which explicitly focus on knowledge of pedagogy, such as understanding of learning theories, instructional design and teaching practices
